System Requirements

Ontrack® PowerControls™, the ultimate in email recovery and analysis, recovers and restores mailbox items directly from Microsoft® Exchange backups, un-mounted database (EDB) files, Information Stores and PST files.

In order to effectively use this software, the following system requirements apply:

One of the following operating systems:

  • Windows® XP Professional
  • Windows Server® 2003
  • Windows Server® 2008 Standard
  • Windows Server 2008 Data Center
  • Windows Server 2008 Enterprise
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows 7 Enterprise
  • Windows 7 Professional
  • Windows 7 Ultimate
  • Windows Vista® Business
  • Windows Vista Ultimate
  • Windows Vista Enterprise


The operating systems listed above are required to have the latest service packs installed. 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the above operating systems are supported.

The following virtual environments are supported:

  • VMware® Server 1.0x, 2.0x
  • VMware® ESX 4.0, ESXi
  • VMware® Workstation v6.0x for Windows
  • Microsoft® Virtual Server 2005 R2
  • Microsoft® Hyper-V™
  • Microsoft® Hyper-V™ Server 2008
  • Microsoft® Virtual PC 2007


Virtual operation of tape devices may have restrictions imposed by virtual operating systems. HASP key operation is validated in environments that support USB attached devices and support the Kroll Ontrack distributed HASP drivers only.

Additional Requirements:

  • Microsoft® .NET Framework 2.0
  • Intel® Pentium® compatible processor
  • 1024 MB RAM minimum
  • 200 MB of free hard disk space for the installation
  • Monitor with 800 x 600 or higher screen resolution
  • USB port (for Ontrack PowerControls product licenses requiring HASP key dongle to run application)
  • Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007 and Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007 SP1 data stored on Microsoft® SQL Server® 2005
  • More disk space (than the 200 MB suggested above) will be needed for processing log files when opening an MDF file
  • Microsoft Messaging APIs (MAPI) installed and configured

Ontrack PowerControls for SharePoint – Additional Requirements

  2. Note: Ontrack PowerControls supports Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007 and Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007 SP1 data stored on SQL Server® 2005 or SQL Server® 2008

Ontrack PowerControls for Exchange – Additional Requirements

  • Microsoft® Office Outlook 2000 or later (requirement dependant on Exchange Server version and interaction)
  • Note: Ontrack PowerControls supports Microsoft® Exchange Server 5.5, Exchange Server 2000, Exchange Server 2003, Exchange Server 2007, Exchange Server 2007 SP1 and SP2 and Exchange Server 2010.
